Vitamin B12 deficiency: Symptoms, risks and how to treat

Vitamin B12 is one of the most important vitamins the body needs in order to maintain the nervous system and avoid irreversible damage.

Despite the role it plays in keeping people healthy however, around 6 per cent of adults aged 60 or younger have a vitamin B12 deficiency in the United States and United Kingdom.

The NHS says this is particularly concerning because consistently low levels of vitamin B12 can affect the nervous system and cause conditions such as peripheral neuropathy, which develops when nerves in the body's extremities, such as the hands, feet and arms, are damaged.

MyLondon reports that the main symptoms of peripheral neuropathy in your feet include numbness, tingling and muscle weakness.
