Valentine's Day snow and freezing 75mph gales before temperatures finally jump

Temperatures will finally hit double digits after record-breaking freezing and snowy conditions - but not until after Valentine's Day.

The Met Office has confirmed that milder conditions are on the way next week. Wintry weather will still be around for this evening and tomorrow, but after that temperatures will begin to rise towards double figures.

Yellow weather warnings for snow and ice are in place across most of Scotland and parts of northern England and Wales on Saturday, and again on Sunday, as well as eastern parts of Northern Ireland.

Blizzards are forecast to sweep across Northern Ireland this evening, with wind speeds reaching 40mph in coastal areas. On Valentine's Day tomorrow, the Met Office has issued two separate warnings
