Brits are advised to soak up the heatwave later this week, because summer might be all but over by mid-August. After an unsettled start to the week, which saw up to 100mm of rain lash parts of Scotland on Tuesday, the weather is expected to settle down.
The south is likely to reach highs of 27C on Wednesday, then 32C by Thursday, before things turn fully Mediterranean on Friday when temperatures could peak at 37C.
And while the Met Office expects the next couple of weeks to see "a good deal of fine and dry weather across the UK", its long range report is fairly ominous. "Confidence remains fairly low for the last two weeks of August and into early September," the report notes for the period beginning August 19.
