The number of patients to die in UK hospitals after contracting Covid-19 has risen by 366. The tragic figure was released by health authorities three days after England went into lockdown for the second time since the start of the pandemic.
There were 283 hospital deaths in England, 39 in Scotland, 32 in Wales and 12 in Northern Ireland. A week ago, there were 256 confirmed hospital deaths.
Later today the Department of Health and Social Care will reveal the number of fatalities in all settings, having confirmed 355 yesterday.
The official UK coronavirus death toll stands at 48,475, while figures from the Office for National Statistics show the virus has been mentioned on more than 62,000 death certificates.
