Everton claimed a crucial 1-0 over Chelsea to significantly boost their hopes of Premier League survival. With the Toffees in dire need of a result following Burnley's comeback win over Watford on Saturday, the Goodison Park faithful came out in force ahead of kick-off, setting off fireworks outside Chelsea's hotel and lighting up flares in the streets outside the stadium.
Frank Lampard's side appeared fired-up, however, neither side were able to create any real efforts of note in a scrappy first 45 minutes which saw more yellow cards than shots on goal.
Much like the Saturday's night's fireworks, the second half started with a bang as Demarai Gray and Richarlison pounced on a lapse in concentration from Cesar Azpilicueta before the latter slid in the opener.
Jordan Pickford produced some stunning saves to secure the vital three points, reacting to deny Azpilicueta's rebound after Mason Mount struck the post and stifling Antonio Rudiger from close range. The crucial triumph saw Everton claw their way back to within two points of Premier League safety.
