An MP has called for an end to a benefits rule which limits Universal Credit to families with two children. The two-child limit is 'effectively an 18-year sanction on the third and fourth child', according to Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds.
More than two million claims for welfare support have been submitted during the coronavirus pandemic, according to the Work and Pensions Secretary.
Therese Coffey said her department has received more than 1.8 million claims to Universal Credit (UC), more than 250,000 claims for Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) and 20,000 claims for Employment Support Allowance (ESA).
