True cost of coronavirus cancelled Grand National detailed as Aintree goes virtual

The cancellation of the Grand National this Saturday will cost almost half a billion pounds in lost revenue, it is claimed. The event will not be taking place for the first time since 1945 due to the coronavirus outbreak and will instead go virtual for the first time ever.

Sport is being hit hard all over the UK and around Europe as football matches and other competitions are being postponed and cancelled.

The bookmaking industry will be the hardest hit for the three-day Aintree festival with £400million usually turned over. According to the Daily Mail , cancelling the event will all in all cost closer to £500m for everyone involved.
