Pitlochry singer and Scottish cultural figure Jock Duncan. Jock died on March 25, aged 95, at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. Although born on a farm in New Deer in rural Aberdeenshire in 1925, Jock and his family moved from Caithness to Pitlochry in the late 1960s.
He was buried in Fonab Cemetery in Pitlochry on Tuesday, April 6. Jock’s mother was a pianist who organised musical sessions in the front room and accompanied the fiddlers she invited.
His older sister, Marion sang and brother Jimmy played the fiddle.Young Jock took chanter lessons but his forte was singing the songs and bothy ballads of his native Aberdeenshire.
