The Tory Chief Whip spoke to the woman who is accusing an MP of rape more than four months ago, it has emerged. Mark Spencer is under new pressure after refusing to suspend the unnamed MP until a police investigation is complete.
Labour ’s Jess Phillips and anonymous Conservative MPs criticised Mr Spencer’s decision to keep the MP's whip last night - with Ms Phillips saying it was “shocking” and “sends a terrible message”.
The Mirror understands Mr Spencer spoke to the woman about her concerns on April 1. However, sources close to the Chief Whip said the woman did not make an allegation of serious sexual assault at that point.
