A senior Conservative woman has accused the Government of "looking the other way" over the case of a Tory MP accused of rape.
The female MP said the Tories should have removed the whip from the ex-minister, who was arrested on Saturday over allegations of rape and sexual assault.
Amid a furious backlash, No10 repeatedly refused to say if the Prime Minister would overturn Chief Whip's Mark Spencer's decision to allow the unnamed MP to remain in the party until a police investigation was complete.
Mr Spencer, who enforces party discipline, has also been accused of failing to act on the complaint for months after it emerged that he had spoken to the woman in April.
