In spite of their busy schedules, when it comes to looking after their children, Kate Middleton and Prince William are extremely hands-on parents.

Breaking away from royal tradition, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge enjoy doing the school run, embarking on outdoor adventures and being with their kids as much as possible in order to give them a ‘normal’ childhood.

However, though their style of parenting may differ from that of royals before them, it doesn’t mean that Kate and William don’t know how to be firm with their children too.The couple, who are parents to Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six, and Prince Louis, three, are said to have one important rule in their home.

Speaking to The Sun in 2020, a source said: “Shouting is absolutely ‘off limits’ for the children and any hint of shouting at each other is dealt with by removal.” But rather than sending them to the “naughty step”, the children are sent to a “chat sofa”. “There’s no ’naughty step’ but there is a ‘chat sofa’. “The naughty child is taken away from the scene of the row or disruption and talked to calmly by either Kate or William,” the source added. “Things are explained and consequences outlined and they never shout at them.” And when Kate, 40, and William, 39, are away on royal engagements, the couple’s nanny Maria Borrallo takes over, though all decisions are made in agreement with the Cambridges. “Maria is firm but she never acts unilaterally with the children on discipline.
