Millions more people will be living under England's most severe Covid restrictions from Wednesday when London plunges into Tier 3.
The capital, along with parts of Essex and Hertfordshire, will enter the top tier - making them very high risk areas - from 12.01am on December 16.
The decision comes after MPs were told coronavirus cases in London were "off the chart". It means more than half of England's population will be in Tier 3 as another 10.7million people will join the 25m already living under England's most restrictive coronavirus restrictions.
The three tiers range from 1, medium risk, up to Tier 2 for high risk areas, with Tier 3 being classed as very high risk and having the most severe measures in place.
