A teenager accused of causing an estimated £10,000 of damage to the Royal Liver Building, after a firework was thrown during celebrations over Liverpool FC winning the Premier League, has appeared in court.
Matthew Egglesden is accused of committing arson intending to destroy or damage the building or being reckless at doing so. The fire damage to the historic building was among various incidents on Friday night as thousands of fans gathered at Pier Head in Liverpool to mark the club becoming champions of England for the first time in 30 years.
On Monday, Thomas Hanlon, prosecuting, said a firework hit the front of the building, dropped down and then ignited before it was later extinguished by fire crews.
