A teenager who became paralysed from the waist down due to a rare condition has defied all odds to become a basketball ace. Grace Roberts, 17, lost mobility when her muscles started 'liquifying' as a child.
But the A-Level student, of Doncaster, South Yorks., was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), a rare condition in which the immune system attacks the peripheral nerves and can cause paralysis - something which she had never heard of before.
The athletic teen was crushed when she was told she would never play sports again. “I’d still try to go to basketball to see my friends play but it was hard to watch them because I thought I should be doing that but I just couldn’t," Grace said.
