Tariq Lamptey's school football coach admits he always knew the Brighton ace was destined for the big time, saying: "He used to score four goals a game!" But Lamptey was also a hard-working and humble boy, keen to catch up on classes missed due to his commitments at Chelsea's academy.
Lamptey has burst onto the scene since the Premier League restart, playing right-back for the Seagulls against Liverpool and Manchester City.
His overnight success, however, has been a long time in the making. Huw Curnow coached Lamptey's football team at Queensmead School in Ruislip for three years from 2014, and oversaw his development from the age of 14 up to 16.
