Chappell Roan achieves first UK Number One album with ‘…Midwest Princess’ – almost a year after its release
Chappell Roan has achieved her first UK Number One album with ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess’ – almost a year after its release. The album was first released last September, and while the long-awaited debut LP of the Missouri pop singer did well on the US charts the first time around, it had less of an impact in the UK.However, with Roan’s star rising rapidly over the last few months, it has charged up three places to the top spot on the Official UK Albums Chart, just ahead of Charli XCX’s ‘Brat’, Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ and Billie Eilish’s ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’.The rise in her profile comes thanks in part to the huge global success of her one-off single ‘Good Luck, Babe!’, as well as the support slot she locked in on Olivia Rodrigo’s huge run of ‘Guts’ tour dates. With the album’s birthday coming up, a series of limited-edition vinyl pressings of ‘The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess’ have also just been released, further boosting its chart rise.Around the time of its release, Roan’s debut album was given a glowing four-star review by NME, with Hannah Mylrea describing it as laden with “unabashedly fun anthems”.“Sharp pop moments shine brighter than some of the weaker ballads that pad out the lengthy tracklist,” it read.
