Journey fan has claimed she was scammed out of over $122,000 (£95,000) by someone impersonating the band’s former lead singer Steve Perry.The 75-year-old woman, who lives in Ohio, was exchanging Facebook messages with someone claiming to be Perry since January, according to a police report obtained by WKYC.The Perry impersonator said he had a “business opportunity” and “needed a woman in his life”.Over the next few months, the woman and scammer corresponded by text and WhatsApp messages, and the victim sent thousands of dollars to who she thought was the former frontman.She sent $72,000 (£56,121) via bank wire transfers to “various persons in various different states, designated by ‘Perry'”.Additionally, she sent over $50,000 (£39,000) in gift cards to the Perry imposter.When the scammer asked for photos of her IDs and “became more demanding”, the woman realised that she was perhaps being conned. Journey have reportedly hired off-duty police officers to guard their dressing rooms on tour.Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain have been on bad terms since suing their former bandmates Ross Valory and Steve Smith, who were still Journey members at the time. After the pair left the group, Schon and Cain turned on each other.The musicians have been fighting over numerous things, including Cain’s decision to perform at Mar-a-Lago and Schon having his access to the band’s corporate American Express account barred.Now, a new report from Billboard claims that the pair went as far as hiring off-duty police officers to guard their dressing rooms while on tour last year.

Journey from 1977 to 1998 and sang on many of their most well-known hits, is attempting to stop his former bandmates from owning trademarks to the names of some of the band’s biggest songs.As Billboard reports, Journey’s two biggest mainstays – guitarist Neal Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain – hold the trademarks to many of the band’s hits, including ‘Anyway You Want It’, ‘Wheel In The Sky’ and ‘Open Arms’, through their Freedom JN LLC company,The trademarks covers the use of those titles on merchandise such as T-shirts, hoodies and other apparel, making it easier for Schon and Cain to sue anyone infringing the trademark by selling items bearing those titles.However, in a petition filed by Perry to the US Patent and Trademark Office on September 11, the singer argued that Schon and Cain’s trademark goes against a partnership agreement the trio signed requiring unanimous consent for any business relating to the trademarked songs, and that he had not provided that consent.
