Orla Gartland tells us about “bolder” and “more intentional” new album ‘Everybody Needs A Hero’

Orla Gartland has spoken to NME about her “bolder” and “more intentional” second studio album, ‘Everybody Needs A Hero’ – on which she tackles themes of “girlhood and womanhood”.The Irish singer-songwriter’s new record will be released on October 4 via her own label, New Friends. It’s a record she told NME was created very differently to her debut, 2021’s ‘Woman On The Internet’, with the album’s title being key to its narrative.“The last track of the record is called ‘Everybody Needs A Hero’ as well, and I actually just really wanted to call both the album and the song this before they existed, which is very different to how it worked with the first album,” Gartland explained.“For the first album, I really did just write a collection of songs and then took the title from a lyric, whereas this whole album process was a lot more intentional,” she added.Gartland elaborated on the differences between the two records, saying: “Making this album took a lot longer than the first one did, and it was picked up and put down because of how busy I was last year, and I’m really proud of myself for pushing forward and for committing.“When I listen to it now, I have a real ‘We did it Joe’ feeling, we just got to the end, and I was able to be in control of it the whole way.”Ahead of the record’s release later this year, NME caught up with Gartland to discuss creating the record, the impact of collaborative group FIZZ on her solo music, the inspiration of St.

Coronation Street newcomer Jim Fizz 'exposed' as Fiz's real dad as fans twig DNA twist
Coronation Street newcomer Jim Fizz could have a key link to another character - at least if eagle-eyed fans are correct. Some are sure that the cocktail maker could be Fiz Stape's biological father in what would be a huge twist.Mixologist Jim entered the soap last week to give a cocktail masterclass to an eager Cathy Matthews, who ended up snogging him before the night was over. Now her kiss has been exposed to fiancé Brian Packard, who was left fuming that Cathy dissed his lame proposal to the barman after hiring him for a stint of his own.Jim has a well-known affinity for red-heads - a profile Fiz's biological mum Cilla Battersby-Brown fits to a tee. He's also around the correct age to have been able to welcome Fiz into the world, while some fans are also sure that his professional nickname could have inspired Fiz's parents to name her Fiona, shortened to Fiz.Fiz first entered the soap as a foster child to Hayley and Roy Cropper, before her biological mum Cilla also entered the soap. She's step-daughter to Les Battersby, though her real father has never appeared on the famous cobbles.Taking to Twitter to share their theories, one fan posted: "I reckon that cocktail guy Jim Fizz will turn out to be Fiz’s real dad… about the right age and maybe named after him! #Corrie."They then followed up: "He does say he has a thing for redheads soooo Cilla makes sense!"Someone else joked that Fiz and Jim are more suited to marriage, quipping: "If Fiz Stape married Jim Fizz she'd be Fiz Fizz."Others are certain Jim will be sticking around for a while longer, which means he'd need some hard hitting storylines. One keen fan tweeted: "Jim Fizz back at it again! Any chance he will be sticking around to ruffle some more feathers? Classic

Bucks Fizz' Jay Aston recognised daughter's meningitis symptoms after husband's near death
The Eurovision star appeared on Loose Women in April and was reduced to tears as she spoke about her ailing daughter. She revealed that Josie was in hospital after falling very ill the previous month, prior to being diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. The 18-year-old was admitted into intensive care and placed in an induced coma after her organs started to fail. Jay told Kay Adams, Frankie Bridge, Katie Piper and Jane Moore: “We almost lost her.”Continuing, Jay said that she was aware it was meningitis that Josie had, as her husband contracted the condition 19 years ago, so she knew how to spot it. She explained that Josie was her “silver lining” after losing her husband. “I knew what to look for,” she added. The star said on the show that Josie was comfortable with her mum going public with the news. She explained that her daughter wanted people to be aware of what happened to her. Jay added that Josie was healthy and on a fitness kick on the days leading up to her diagnosis. She said: “She called me to say she wasn't feeling well...“She'd been lying in the sun and I thought had a bit of heatstroke.”Jay said that she tried to bring her temperature down but failed. The star added that she had to take Josie to A&E herself, as the ambulances didn’t respond. A tearful Jay went on: “I had her in my bed with me and she woke up at about 3am and told me, 'I'm not right.'"She said then, breaking into tears: "If she'd gone in her own bed I don't think I'd have a daughter," before the panelists comforted her.Jay said that she found a rash on Josie's arm in the early morning after putting on her bedroom light to take a look at her.She said her reaction was “oh god, not again”.Jay confirmed it was nearly identical to what her
