Miller, who is non-binary and uses they and them pronouns, made a big show of acknowledging Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, Warner Bros. Film Group heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy and DC Studios stewards James Gunn and Peter Safran for “your grace and discernment and care in the context of my life. And in bringing this moment to fruition.”

Warner Bros. held the premiere for the long-awaited DC spinoff The Flash today in Hollywood with its star Ezra Miller, who has been the subject of several tabloid headlines from alleged assaults in Hawaii to unlawful trespassing at a neighbor’s house in Vermont, making their red carpet debut since such incidents.

I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.»In June 2020, Miller was captured on video in Iceland, where the star was seen yelling at a woman outside a bar, «Do you wanna fight? Is that the deal?» The woman responded by putting her arms up as Miller approached her and appeared to grab her by the neck.

But in “The Flash,” when the title character throttles forward at the speed of the hot-singe lightning streaks at his back, or floats through the air in slowed-down motion so beyond bullet-time that a mere second appears to last forever, the movie makes us part of the experience. We know just what he’s going through, which is why the scene gives you a jolt.     Early on, Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), a forensic chemist in the Central City Police Department, receives a call from Alfred (Jeremy Irons) — yes, that Alfred — letting him know that there’s an attack underway, and that none of the other Justice League members, notably Batman, is around to help. So Barry, in his form-fitting red thermal crystal helmet and suit, zoom-runs all the way to Gotham City, where he confronts a high-rise hospital whose east wing is collapsing, leaving a nursery full of newborns falling through the air. The extended sequence in which he saves them, grabbing energy bites of candy and burrito in between, has the feel of an underwater comedy ballet. It’s life-or-death but cheeky as hell. Just like our cracked hero.

The hype is real. DC’s The Flash may not be the greatest comic book movie ever made, but it comes damn close. Easily the best in the genre since Spider-Man: No Way Home, this fresh, invigorating and hugely entertaining summer treat is as good as it gets when it comes to cinematic takes on superheroes.

The film’s director, Andy Muschietti, and cast members Ben Affleck, Sasha Calle and Michael Shannon, as well as fellow DC Universe superhero Jason Momoa, will also hit the red carpet that will be missing the standard press gauntlet. Typically, the star of a $190 million tentpole will promote the film in interviews across print, TV and oftentimes podcasts spanning multiple continents. (Harrison Ford has been ubiquitous in the run-up to the June 30 bow of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” including a high-profile showing at the Cannes Film Festival.)

With Ezra Miller being involved in so many personal controversies, many believed that The Flash could be abandoned completely. However, director Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti are dispelling the rumors and claim that the film was never in danger.

Some reports last year claimed otherwise, with rumors circulating that “The Flash” would be shelved for tax incentive purposes a la “Batgirl” given the controversies surrounding Miller. When asked if there was a legitimate fear of the movie being canceled, Barbara Muschietti said, “Not at all. No. That was never real.” “The Flash” is directed by Barbara’s brother, Andy Muschietti. The filmmaker recently disclosed on “The Discourse” podcast that he has no intentions of re-casting Miller should “The Flash” team return for a potential sequel.

During an interview on “The Discourse” podcast, Muschietti said he has no plans to recast Miller despite the actor’s history of legal troubles and alleged abuse. “If [a sequel] happens, yes,” Muschietti said about having Miller back as the Flash. “I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys — it feels like a character that was made for them.”
