Around 188,000 people in Scotland are affected by some form of sight loss with that figure expected to double by 2031, according to the charity, Sight Scotland, formerly known as Royal Blind. Three out of four people with a visual impairment are aged over 65 with around 8,000 people of working age registered blind or partially sighted.

Naman Ramachandran Make My Money Matter, a campaign group founded by filmmaker and activist Richard Curtis (“Love Actually”), has launched a new short film starring “Game of Thrones” stars and real life couple Kit Harington and Rose Leslie, in a bid to increase pressure on U.K. high street banks to cease financing the expansion of the fossil fuel industry. The film, titled “Couples Therapy,” showcases how major banks continue to finance the industry, despite warnings from the International Energy Agency that doing so could trigger a climate catastrophe. In the film, Harington and Leslie personify the banks and their oil and gas clients, playing out an unhealthy relationship in a tongue-in-cheek couples’ therapy session.

Robert De Niro once left her father “hysterical” after paying him a surprise visit at work.The actor shared the story during her opening monologue on Saturday Night Live (April 15), where she explained that she met De Niro while filming her first American movie, 2016 sports biopic Hands Of Stone.“One day on set he told me, ‘I may be going to Cuba soon. If I do, I’ll say hello to your family,’” de Armas said on the show.

The latest figures from the Scottish Government show that there are estimated to be around 850,000 people with hearing loss in Scotland and of those, 70 per cent are over 70. It is projected that figures could double over the next 20 years, with a delay of up to 10 years before people address their hearing loss.

New figures show that during the 2022/23 financial year, some 5,300 people successfully challenged the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) over its initial decision not to award them Personal Independence Payment (PIP). Of that total, some 1,500 claimants have also been awarded at least one enhanced payment rate of either the daily living or mobility component of the disability benefit through the Mandatory Reconsideration process.

Emiliano De Pablos Spain’s fast-growing production house Mediacrest Entertainment is launching high-concept eco-reality contest format “El pueblo” (“The Village”), which will have its international market premiere at this week’s MipTV trade fair. Designed as a primetime reality show, “El pueblo” has been structured as a social experiment, charting five families’ attempt to settle in an abandoned village, guided by the principles of sustainability and globally connected self-sufficiency.  The families’ will create their own rules, events and traditions, will initiate agriculture and livestock initiatives and start trading with nearby towns, sand later with the world. The twist: Only one winning family finally gets to stay in the village.

Motsi Mabuse is being sued by her ex-husband Timo Kulczak after he alleged that she made "untrue" statements about him and their marriage in her autobiography. Ditto Music has settled a legal dispute with Lil Yachty which related to the promotion of Opulous, the music NFT start-up and sister company to the DIY distributor.The rapper – real name Miles McCollum – went legal in January last year via the courts in California, claiming that Opulous had used his name and brand as part of its launch communications in 2021, even though he had never agreed to get involved in the new venture.Ditto was also named as a defendant – as was Ditto and Opulous founder Lee Parsons – on the basis that they had both posted about those launch communications on their respective social media channels.McCollum’s lawsuit conceded that he and his management team had met with Parsons to discuss Opulous, which encourages fans to invest in new music in return for a royalty right linked to any tracks they support, all secured via NFTs on the blockchain.However, said lawsuit insisted, they never agreed to work with the NFT start-up, or for Lil Yachty’s name to be linked to it in formal communications.In a media statement responding to the lawsuit, Opulous insisted that it had, in fact, secured the necessary approvals before linking Lil Yachty to its NFTs platform. However, it was Ditto and Parsons that formally responded through the courts.They both tried to get the case dismissed on jurisdiction grounds, arguing that Ditto is a UK-based company and Parsons is a British citizen with no formal connections to California.However, the judge ruled that Ditto – with US addresses on its website, employees recruited in the US and American events promoted on its social media – fell under the jurisdiction of the Californian courts.
