Stirling woman recalls her VE Day memories to mark 75th anniversary

A Cambusbarron woman has been sharing her memories of VE Day as the country prepares to mark the 75th anniversary today (Friday) of the momentous occasion signalling the end of World War II.Elizabeth Cummings (nee Betty McCormick) had celebrated her fourth birthday just the day before but now says VE Day is her most vivid childhood memory.At the time, she was living in Cambusbarron with her parents and elder sister Isobel.As a youngster the significance of the day at the time was a little lost on her - but it is now a memory she treasures.“I remember the excitement all around me and how the adults were decorating their windows and doors with flags and anything in red, white and blue,” said Elizabeth, who celebrated her 79th birthday
