By Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor Steve Priest, bassist and singer for long-running glam-era rock band The Sweet, has died, according to statements from the band and Priest’s family.

The cause of death was not announced; he was 72. "It is with a heavy heart that we announce at 8:25am PT today, Steve Priest, founding member of The Sweet, passed away.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen, three daughters, Lisa, Danielle & Maggie and 3 grandchildren, Jordan, Jade & Hazel. — The Sweet (@SPSweetBand) June 4, 2020 The Sweet were one of the biggest bands to emerge from the glam-rock era of the early 1970s, riding the David Bowie-T.
