Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has assured youngster Matty Longstaff he'll be a key member of his squad next season despite the imminent arrival of Jeff Hendrick.
The Toon chief has convinced the 20-year-old to stay at St James' Park despite interest from home and abroad.Longstaff's decision to stay put is a major triumph for Bruce who spent hours on the phone to the youngster persuading him to sign a new long-term deal.Serie A outfit Udinese had appeared favourites to land Longstaff but their interest waned following Watford's relegation – they had planned to loan him out to the Hornets.
