Small firms 'should get taxpayer-funded free postage' to compete with Amazon

Rishi Sunak has been urged to cover postage fees for small businesses at Christmas to help "level the playing field" with giants like Amazon.

The Chancellor was told to help struggling high streets over the festive period by freeing them of delivery costs. Christine Jardine, the Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesperson, wrote to Mr Sunak to suggest a scheme to help shops hit by decreased footfall during the pandemic, following the Eat Out to Help Out scheme to help restaurants in the summer.
