Scots paddle boarder rescued after being blown out to sea by strong winds

rescue operation was launched after a stricken paddleboarder was blown out to sea by strong, gusting winds. HM Coastguard was called at around 11.20am on Sunday following reports of two people in difficulty near East Sands beach in St Andrews, Fife.

Emergency services, including two RNLI lifeboats, raced to the scene before receiving information that one of the fun-seekers had successfully made it to shore.

But the second person was being blown further offshore and needed to be rescued from the choppy waves.A rescue helicopter was called for but stood down on route after water crews managed to reach the ‘cold and wet’ casualty before bringing them back to land.In a statement, RNLI Broughty Ferry said: “Both lifeboats were paged by Aberdeen.
