Parents are urging schools to ease up with the hand-washing claiming their children come home "crying in pain" with "red raw" hands.
Angry mums and dads at one unnamed school in Teesside claim pupils have to scrub their hands up to 10 times a day to stay Covid-safe - and they say it's "just too much".
Hand washing is one of the most important ways of controlling the spread of infections according to Public Health England which recommends liquid soap, warm water and paper towels.
The UK Government also advises all school staff and pupils to wash their hands after using the toilet, before eating or handling food and after touching animals.
