David Robert Joseph Beckham OBE (born 2 May 1975) is an English former professional footballer, the current president of Inter Miami CF and co-owner of Salford City. He played for Manchester United, Preston North End, Real Madrid, Milan, LA Galaxy, Paris Saint-Germain and the England national team, for which he held the appearance record for an outfield player until 2016. He is the first English player to win league titles in four countries: England, Spain, the United States and France. He retired in May 2013 after a 20-year career, during which he won 19 major trophies.

Ryan Giggs insists Sir Alex Ferguson had no choice but to give David Beckham the boot after the pair started to fight like cat and dog at Manchester United.

Fergie stunned the footballing world in 2003 when he agreed to let Beckham join bitter rivals Real Madrid in a £24m deal at the age of 28.

Beckham was at the peak of his powers and had been the captain of England, but their relationship was reduced to rubble when Fergie decided the midfielder had started thinking he was bigger than the United boss himself.

In his book, Fergie claimed the 'death knell' was sounded after the player directly challenged his authority. The Scot also accused Beckham, who he once described as being 'like a son' to him, of blowing his chance to be a United
