Robin van Persie has admitted he had more protection at Arsenal under Arsene Wenger as life at Manchester United was more ruthless.
The Dutchman was ready for his biggest test at Old Trafford in 2012 when he quit the Gunners to team up with Sir Alex Ferguson.
And the decision worked in Van Persie’s favour as he went on to help clinch the Premier League title in his first season with the Red Devils.
In eight years at Arsenal, he only experienced trophy success once when they won the 2005 FA Cup. Van Persie’s time with the Gunners brought regular disappointment for fans as Arsenal often fell short after being one of the powerhouses of English football during Wenger’s first decade in north London.
