Robin van Persie has claimed David Moyes "was not to blame" for Manchester United 's struggles after the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Moyes came in as Ferguson's replacement after the legendary Scotsman opted to walk away from the role in the 2013 after a highly successful 26 years.
However, the former Everton boss was unable to continue Ferguson's success and was sacked before the end of his first Premier League season at the helm, with United in seventh.
Despite this, Van Persie believes the players deserve just as much blame as Moyes, claiming "the standards were so high but they dropped". "We did struggle because we ended up being 7th," he said. "From such a high…we were thinking about winning the Champions League and moving on.
