Paul Scholes believes the reason that Juan Sebastian Veron never lived up to his billing as one of the world's top midfielders as Manchester United was down to the formation that club played.
Sir Alex Ferguson preferred to utilise a 4-4-1-1 or a 4-4-2 system as opposed to the 4-3-3 formation that had seen Veron excel during spells with Serie A sides Sampdoria, Parma and Lazio.
Scholes played alongside the Argentine playmaker, whose £28.1m deal made him the most expensive transfer in English football at that time.
