Roberto Carlos has named Ronaldo Nazario as the greatest footballer in history. ‘The Phenomenon’ scored 247 goals across 343 club outings in all competitions in a career that was blighted by injury, adding a further 62 strikes in 98 international appearances.
The 43-year-old was widely adored for his blistering pace and dribbling ability, and was famed for rounding defenders and goalkeepers to sweep the ball into an empty net.
Carlos, who played alongside Ronaldo for both Real Madrid and Brazil, believes the ability of his former team-mate is above that of both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who have won 11 Ballon d’Ors between them compared to Ronaldo’s two.
