Ricky Gervais has weighed in on Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars with a long-awaited response on Twitter - and fans were not disappointed.During Sunday evening's Academy Awards ceremony, the 53-year-old King Richard Oscar winner stormed the stage after the comedian had cracked a GI Jane joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, who has alopecia.

At the time of the joke, Will appeared to laugh along until he saw his wife was not best pleased with Chris' quip.Will then made his way up to the stage where he cuffed Chris straight across the face before heading back to his seat telling him to "keep my wife's name out your f***ing mouth".With the cameras still very much rolling at the swanky red carpet bash it wasn't long before Will's violent outburst went viral, leaving the entire globe in shock.

There had been many cries for former Golden Globes host Ricky to add a comment about the situation and the Office star had remained silent on the matter until now.However, eagle-eyed fans had also spotted the After Life creator liking many tweets after the altercation at the Oscars.Stirring the pot, Ricky retweeted an old joke video from the second series of The Office.David Brent can be seen in the scene as he lands a quip about the medical condition alopecia.In the boozer with some work chums, David Brent says: "I know someone who is an alcoholic and it is no laughing matter – particularly for his wife. "And she's got alopecia.

So… not a happy home life."Fans of the funnyman and sitcom writer went wild for the pose, adding praise beneath. One person penned: "I've been checking @rickygervais’s Twitter, waiting for his take on last night’s drama.
