Rhys Jones’ killer reportedly wants to become a mentor for young kids in a bid to secure his release from prison. Rhys, just 11, was on his way home from football practice in Croxteth, Liverpool, when he was gunned down by 16-year-old Sean Mercer in 2007.
He was caught in the crossfire in a gang rivalry between the Croxteth Crew and the Strand Gang in the car park of the Fir Tree Pub.
Mercer, now 29, was sentenced to life in prison aged 18 and must serve a minimum of 22 years before he is eligible for parole.
He’s doing time at HMP Frankland, dubbed Monster Mansion for its array of notorious criminals, and is allegedly regarded as one of the prison's most feared cons.
