Quarter of a million high street jobs could be lost as customers spend more and more cash online, experts warn. Last week retail giants John Lewis and Boots announced more than 5,000 jobs were at risk between them - and analysts say this is "just the start".

And Burger King could lose up to 10% of its workforce, it has emerged - meaning that since the start of the pandemic around 60,000 retail jobs are at risk.

Before the lockdown, it was estimated that 30% of non-food sales were made online, but this has now risen to 40%, retail expert Richard Hyman told The Sun.

He said this would amount to "hundreds of thousands of job losses". Mr Hyman said online retail is now worth £70 billion following huge rises in the past 15 years.
