Prison inmates 'will die' due to coronavirus spread, say bosses - family visits could be stopped

Prison bosses say inmates 'will die' as coronavirus continues to spread across the country. Andrea Albutt, president of the Prison Governors Association, said criminals in jail were likely to die as the spread of the COVID-19 worsens.

She said prison governors would attempt to keep family visits going for as long as they can, while weighing up the health risk to prisoners.

Ms Albutt said bosses were managing staff shortages due to employees self-isolating or being off sick. The announcement comes after new government advice, telling people to self-isolate in they develop particular coronavirus symptoms.
