Prince William is reportedly very “displeased” with the BBC for including his mother Princess Diana in a new drama about Jimmy Savile.Kate Tickle has been cast as the actress to play the People’s Princess, who is expected to be seen meeting the disgraced paedophile – played by Steve Coogan.

The scene features a visit Princess Di made to Stoke Mandeville Hospital, alongside her husband Prince Charles, where it later emerged Savile had committed abuse.

It was hoped within royal circles that the scene would not appear in the final cut of The Reckoning, which is expected to air later this year.A TV insider told The Sun: “Prince William would have preferred not to see his mother feature alongside this vile monster at all. “But he would be particularly displeased that it’s in a BBC show — and one that’s proved so controversial. “Although Diana was one of the important people who Savile ingratiated himself with, there were many others whose influence played a greater part in him getting access to young people and hiding in plain sight.” To stay up to date with all the latest news, make sure you sign up for one of our newsletters here. The Duke of Cambridge is still said to be angry by how his mother was tricked into giving a BBC Panorama interview to Martin Bashir in 1995.

It was ruled last year that Bashir used “deceitful methods” to secure the interview with Diana, with William issuing a statement saying that it should “never air again”.The decision to chronicle Savile’s life has already upset many of his survivors, while groups representing rape and sexual abuse victims have also voiced anger at the dramatisation of his crimes – which didn’t come to life until his death in 2011.
