Poundland store not closing as retailer secures deal to stay open at Kilmarnock retail park
dailyrecord.co.ukA Kilmarnock shop won't be closing after bosses reached an agreement to keep the store open.Online speculation had suggested that Poundland was close to shutting up shop for good with staff potentially facing an uncertain future.It's understood that notice was served on the Glencairn Retail Park discount store but that bosses were thrashing out a deal with the landlord last week in a bid to keep the store open.Poundland has now confirmed that a new contract has been struck and that the shop won't be closing.A spokesperson for Poundland said: "The store isn’t closing as we’ve reached an agreement with the landlord which is currently being finalised."Kilmarnock already has a Poundland, based in the town's Burns Mall.The Glencairn Retail Park has undergone huge changes in recent years with B&M taking charge of a huge triple unit and Food Warehouse revamping the shop formerly occupied by Aldi.Poundland closed a handful of shops across the UK last year but also opened, extended or relocated more than 30 stores in 2023.
