A Romanian pickpocketing gang said to have stolen more than £11 million from victims has been arrested in Spain. The gang is said to have preyed on British and Irish tourists on holiday in Spain.
Investigators estimate that the gang's leaders were raking in a shocking £1.5m a year from their nefarious activities. The astonishing figures came to light after 34 alleged members were arrested in the Majorcan capital Palma on Tuesday.
The gang, which often used children in echoes of Charles Dickens’ fictional Oliver Fagin-led operation, has been described locally as Europe’s main pickpocketing gang.
They are said to have been operating in Majorca for several years, with many members allegedly travelling to the sunshine island every summer
