Selome Hailu Apple TV+ has set a title for its upcoming series from Legendary’s Monsterverse: “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.” “Monarch” is set in the same universe as the films “Godzilla” (2014), “Kong: Skull Island” (2017), “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” (2019), “Godzilla vs. Kong” (2021) and the upcoming sequel “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” Spanning three generations, the series following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows.

Apple TV+’s anticipated sci-fi drama series based on Legendary’s Monsterverse now has an official title. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is Legendary Television’s new live-action series featuring Godzilla and the Titans. The streamer also unveiled some of the first photos (see above and below) from the 10-episode series.

Today, Apple TV+ announced the title of its highly anticipated sci-fi drama based on Legendary’s Monsterverse as “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.” Additionally, the streamer unveiled the first images from the 10-episode series starring Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.

Wyatt Russell plays Cooper, who accepts an offer to test out an advanced, virtual-reality horror video game but gets much more trauma than he signed up for. The game taps into Cooper’s darkest fears, such as inheriting his late father’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis, and delivers enough Dan Trachtenberg-directed jump scares to leave you unsure of what’s really going on until the final seconds.

Another Marvel blockbuster has hit a roadblock.

Ellise Shafer Marvel’s upcoming “Thunderbolts” film has paused production due to the ongoing writers strike, Variety has confirmed. The movie was scheduled to begin shooting in Atlanta next month, and plans to resume production after the strike is resolved. Part of Marvel’s Phase Five, “Thunderbolts” is set to bring together the worlds of “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “Black Widow” and the upcoming “Captain America” installment “New World Order.” “Paper Towns” director Jake Schreier is helming the film, with “Beef” creator Lee Sung Jin penning the script from a first draft by “Black Widow” writer Eric Pearson. The “Thunderbolts” cast includes Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, David Harbout, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Harrison Ford, all reprising their Marvel characters. Newcomers in undisclosed roles include “The Bear” breakout Ayo Edebiri and “Minari” star Steven Yeun. The film is currently scheduled to be released on July 26, 2024.

EXCLUSIVE: Blumhouse and Atomic Monster’s Night Swim from writer/director Bryce McGuire has added Amélie Hoeferle, Gavin Warren, Nancy Lenehan, and Jodi Long to the cast. It was released simultaneously on HBO Max, causing controversy when Legendary was not on board with the early streaming release.

Universal Pictures, Atomic Monster and Blumhouse’s Night Swim is now opening on January 5, 2024 instead of January 19.
