Broadway box office was down just a bit last week, about 3%, with the first week of the 2024-2025 season reporting a total gross of $35,295,405 for 34 productions. Total attendance was off just shy of 2% from the previous week, settling at 287,246.

Broadway said a few so-longs last week, with the star-studded Our Town ending its limited run and some original cast members of Oh, Mary! and The Great Gatsby giving way to replacements. Ticket-buyers were there to see everyone off.

Rebecca Rubin Senior Film and Media Reporter Christopher Ashley, the Tony-winning director of “Come From Away,” has been appointed as the new artistic director of Roundabout Theatre Company. Ashley has spent the past 17 years as the artistic director of San Diego’s La Jolla Playhouse and will begin his tenure with the New York-based nonprofit in July 2026 with the 2027-2028 season. He will take over from interim artistic director Scott Ellis, who assumed the role after Roundabout’s influential artistic director and chief executive Todd Haimes died in 2023.
