John Lewis 2024 Christmas ad revealed with Richard Ashcroft covering The Verve’s ‘Sonnet’
Richard Ashcroft covering The Verve’s track ‘Sonnet’. Check it out below. The UK retailer has become recognised for its festive ads over the years, with the plot usually telling a short story, while also featuring a specially-created cover of a famous song to accompany. Now, the ad for 2024 has been shared, which centres around a character called Sally, who embarks on a journey through her childhood memories in a bid to find the perfect Christmas gift for her sister Lauren.Taking inspiration from The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, she falls through a rack of dresses, only to find herself in a fantastical world of her memories.Titled The Gifting Hour, the ad ends with the strapline: “The secret to finding the perfect gift? Knowing where to look.”Unlike previous years, which included covers of famous tracks, this time around the retailer has lined up a performance of The Verve’s single ‘Sonnet’ – performed by frontman Richard Ashcroft. While the track was originally released over 25 years ago, Ashcroft also recorded an acoustic version of the single for his ‘Acoustic Hymns Vol 1’ solo album, which was shared back in October 2021.That record saw him reimagine songs from his back catalogue, and included a number of tracks from The Verve’s third studio album, ‘Urban Hymns’.

Liam Gallagher has teased that he’s been blown away by the music his brother Noel Gallagher has written for a potential new Oasis album. No new record has yet been officially confirmed by the band, but Liam has been teasingly tweeting about a new LP over the last few months. In September, when one fan asked “Is it true that Oasis will have a new album???”, Liam replied: “Yep it’s already finished.”Another reply came to a tweet asking whether a new album was “in the air”, to which he said, “It’s in the bag mate fuck the air”.Now, when asked by a fan what Liam thinks of the new songs Noel has written for Oasis he replied: “Blown away”.Blown away— Liam Gallagher (@liamgallagher) November 2, 2024While Liam is known for being light-hearted and flippant on X, and his tweets fall well short of any official confirmation, he does have form in leaking clues to news before it becomes public knowledge. He did, for example, tweet about the photoshoot he was doing with Noel ahead of the return announcement, and hinted at the band playing some big Manchester shows, before anything was made official. He also initially teased the band’s reunion and their UK and Ireland 2025 tour dates before both were officially confirmed.More recently, he teased that both Richard Ashcroft and Cast could potentially support Oasis, both of which again ended up becoming official.A comment back in April also resurfaced after the comeback announcement, in which he suggested Oasis would be recording a new album in November and that Noel was spotted heading into a recording studio after the Oasis announcement, with some also pointing to the fact that the singer-songwriter publicly announced he was scrapping an acoustic album earlier this year in favour of a more
