Prior to the final hymn, the Imperial State Crown, the Orb and the Sceptre was removed from the coffin by the Crown Jeweller and, with the Bargemaster and Serjeants-at-Arms, passed to the Dean who placed them on the altar.The removal of the crown from the coffin to the altar is poignant, because in 1953 the crown was taken from the altar in Westminster Abbey and placed on the Queen’s head, marking the start of a 70-year reign.

Following the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey, her coffin was transported by the state hearse to Windsor Castle. Before she is laid to rest alongside Prince Philip, the late monarch had a committal service at St George’s Chapel that was attended by the royal family. During the service Princess Charlotte, who was seated beside her uncle Prince Harry, shared a sweet moment with her father’s brother.

Queen Elizabeth II was known to be particularly close to her father, George VI, so it seems only right that elements of their funerals mirrored one another. A state funeral for the late monarch took place in Westminster Abbey on Monday morning, before the coffin was taken on an emotional journey to St. George's Chapel, Windsor, where the Queen will be buried alongside Price Philip.
