Following the Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey on Monday 19 September a committal service was held at St George’s Chapel and her heir paid a poignant tribute to her with his seating plan.
King Charles III, 73, occupied the seat at the end of the row, which was the same one her late Majesty sat in during Prince Philip’s funeral service last year.
At the time of the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, Covid restrictions meant that the Queen was forced to grieve apart from her family and a solemn picture of the mask-clad monarch was significant of the social distancing rules at the time. The Covid restrictions also meant Prince Philip's funeral had only 30 guests allowed in contrast with the estimated 800 originally planned to attend - the same number present at the Queen's committal service today.
Royal fans took to social media to share their views on the emotional scene as one person said: “This is a powerful sight to see King Charles III sitting in the exact same seat the late Queen Elizabeth II was in only 17 months ago at the funeral of the Duke Of Edinburgh.” “Such a sad & powerful sight to see King Charles III sitting in the exact same seat the late Queen Elizabeth II was in only 17 months ago at the funeral of the Duke Of Edinburgh,” said another.
