Leeds fear Marcelo Bielsa methods have left new manager Jesse Marsch with uphill battle
Leeds bosses fear new manager Jesse Marsch will be taking over a squad that is mentally and physically shattered.Former RB Leipzig and New York Red Bulls boss Marsch is expected to be appointed today as Marcelo Bielsa's replacement.Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani sacked Bielsa in the wake of last weekend's 4-0 home thrashing by Tottenham. The news left Leeds fans stunned and distraught, but Radrizzani decided to wield the axe because he thought the Argentine would take the club back into the Championship. And it has emerged that one of the main factors behind Radrizzani's decision was that Bielsa's intense training methods had left his stars too tired to compete in games. It is understood the players became bored of Bielsa's approach, found him too demanding and could no longer cope with what he was asking them to do.Leeds find themselves two points above the drop zone following six games without a win, and have lost their last four matched by an aggregate scoreline of 17-2.Radrizzani, along with his fellow directors, targeted Marsch two years ago and had lined him up to come in this summer, when Bielsa was expected to leave the Yorkshire club. But Leeds have had to bring forward their plans and hope to confirm Marsch's appointment within a matter of hours, provided the necessary paperwork and visa applications get completed.Bielsa, meanwhile, travelled to the club's training ground this morning to say an emotional goodbye to his players and staff and is expected to fly back to Argentina to be reunited with his family.

Leeds fans left heartbroken over uncertainty of Marcelo Bielsa's unsung hero
Leeds United on Sunday was met with an outpouring of emotion from fans – and not all of it was directed towards the outgoing manager.Bielsa was sacked after Saturday’s 4-0 defeat by Tottenham left Leeds precariously placed in 16th position, two points above the relegation zone. The Argentine has been hugely successful with the Whites since taking over in June 2018, bringing them up from the Championship before securing ninth place last season.Leeds’ decision to let him go has sparked plenty of debate online, despite the team losing their last four games by an aggregate score of 17-2."This has been the toughest decision I have had to make during my tenure at Leeds United, taking into account all the success Marcelo has had at the club," said chairman Andrea Radrizzani. What Radrizzani didn’t address – but many fans did – was the fate of a familiar face: Bielsa’s interpreter.Andres Clavijo has endeared himself to fans by standing by Bielsa’s side in post-match interviews over the past three and a half years.Clavijo is the first team performance analyst at Leeds, but his grasp of Spanish and English has seen him take up a more prominent role.HAVE YOUR SAY! Bielsa's Leeds legacy will deservedly live on - but refusal to change led to downfall
Marcelo Bielsa was the messiah who made Leeds fans fall back in love with football again. The Argentine led them back to the promised land of the Premier League after almost two decades of pain - and his beautiful brand of football transformed Leeds from the team people loved to hate to being their second favourite one in the land.He earned cult status for giving supporters a side to be proud of, transforming the lives of some and making the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Raphina and Patrick Bamford international stars as well as local legends.Bamford led the tributes of gratitude and thanks to the Argentine following his shock sacking, with the simple message "Thank you, the man who changed everything for everyone."It's a measure of the esteem in which Bielsa is held that Bamford was not alone in expressing his genuine sadness at the departure of the former Argentina and Chile manager.Several members of staff were said to be in floods of tears following Saturday's home thrashing by Tottenham, fearful Bielsa had taken charge of his final game.He would be applauded at service stations, followed around supermarkets and had hundreds of fans camped outside his rented home in Wetherby for days on end following promotion to the Premier League. The outpouring of footballing grief for someone Pep Guardiola once labelled "the best coach in the world" threatened to send social media into a meltdown. But despite qualities including being humble, ruthless and studios to the extreme, it was his stubbornness that led to his eventual downfall.Injuries to the likes of Bamford, Phillips and Liam Cooper didn't help, but Bielsa refused to compromise his principles of "pure football" irrespective of the fact Leeds were going backwards. Some people

Leeds United break unwanted Premier League record as they ship four at home to Spurs
Leeds United have made history after becoming the first team in the Premier League era to concede 20 goals in a calendar month. They were thumped 4-0 by Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, leaving manager Marcelo Bielsa's future in serious doubt. In February, Leeds have shipped three goals against Aston Villa and Everton, four goals against Tottenham and Manchester United, and six goals against Liverpool. It's been a whopping 36 years since a team in the English top flight conceded so many times in just one month, with Newcastle United leaking 21 goals back in April 1986.Leeds have now conceded 60 goals in the Premier League this season, more than any other side, and Bielsa admitted after the game that this was a serious problem."The amount of goals conceded, of course it has a decisive influence on the results we obtain," the 66-year-old said."No team can think in progressing within the competition if you have a defensive weakness that's so manifested like ours."When asked if he was confident he could turn things around, his response was typically bullish."Of course," he said. Will Marcelo Bielsa get sacked? Let us know what you think in the comments section below...This latest defeat leaves Leeds perilously close to the relegation zone and sees Bielsa well and truly staring down the barrel at Elland Road. The club has won just three matches since October, and for the first time since the Argentine arrived in Yorkshire four years ago, he looks lost and even devoid of ideas.Leeds are now just three points from safety, but could slip into the drop-zone as four teams below them have games in hand.
