Ellise Shafer “How to Get to Heaven From Belfast,” the new series from “Derry Girls” creator Lisa McGee, has moved to Netflix from Channel 4. Produced by Hat Trick Productions, the comedy thriller will start shooting in Northern Ireland later this year. The project was announced by Channel 4 in August 2023.

Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee has announced a new Channel 4 comedy show.The new eight-part series, How To Get To Heaven From Belfast will follow childhood friends Saoirse, Robyn and Dara in their 30s, who become embroiled in a mystery after attending the wake of a former classmate.A synopsis adds: “When the women each receive an email informing them of the death of Greta, an old classmate they were once very close with, there’s clearly some unspoken, unfinished business. The friends decide to attend Greta’s wake and discover all may not be quite as it seems.

According to character descriptions, Saoirse is a “successful writer with a compulsion to hit the self-destruct button,” Robyn is a “sweary, stressed out mother of three young boys” and Dara is the “full-time carer of an elderly parent, who hasn’t managed to move out of her teenage bedroom.” The description continues, “When the women each receive an email informing them of the death of Greta, an old classmate they were once very close with, there’s clearly some unspoken, unfinished business.

Siobhan McSweeney’s BAFTA acceptance speech was edited out of the BAFTA TV Awards ceremony broadcast on Sunday. McSweeney won the best female comedy performance BAFTA for playing Sister Michael in Channel 4’s Northern Ireland-set show “Derry Girls.” During her speech McSweeney said: “I am daily impressed with how you encompass the spirit of compromise and resilience despite the indignities, ignorance, and stupidity of your so-called leaders in Dublin, Stormont and Westminster. In the words of my beloved Sister Michael, ‘It’s time they started to wise up.'” These lines were cut from the broadcast.

Celebrating the talent behind-the-scenes the BAFTA Television Craft Awards 2023 in London honored House of the Dragon and This is Going to Hurt with each winning three trophies.

HBO’s “House of the Dragon” won for make-up and hair design (Amanda Knight, Barrie Gower and Rosalia Culora); sound in fiction (Alastair Sirkett, Doug Cooper, Martin Seeley, Paula Fairfield, Tim Hands, Adele Fletcher) and special, visual and graphic effects (Angus Bickerton, Nikeah Forde, Asa Shoul, Mike Dawson, MPC, Pixomodo).

Naman Ramachandran Channel 4’s “Derry Girls” and the BBC’s “This is Going to Hurt” and “The Traitors” have won the top honors at the U.K.’s annual Broadcasting Press Guild (BPG) Awards. “Derry Girls” won best comedy and best writer for Lisa McGee and the stars of “This is Going to Hurt,” Ben Whishaw and Ambika Mod won best actor and best actress. The most popular new reality show on British television, “The Traitors,” won best entertainment title. Derry Girls child star Zoe Brown has been diagnosed with leukaemia.The four-year-old played Baby Anna, the younger sister of Erin Quinn, in the Channel 4 show which is focused on the lives of teenagers growing up in Derry during the Troubles. She played the role alongside her twin sister Sophie and starred in the second and third series of the show. Zoe was diagnosed with leukaemia in May and has been undergoing treatment and chemotherapy.

Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan revealed that she still has not seen the final episode of the third season.The 35 year old actress admits that she isn’t sure when she would watch the emotional finale as she knows she is “going to cry a lot”. Nicola, who plays Clare Devlin in the Northern Ireland-based Channel 4 comedy, was in Los Angeles when the episode was released and has not seen it yet. She told PA: “You know what, I haven’t watched the finale yet, because I was in LA when it came out.

The third season of Derry Girls has welcomed a few famous faces, including Liam Neeson and a Peaky Blinders star, but there was a surprising cameo in the last few minutes of Wednesday night's hour-long special. The end of the episode skipped ahead to the present day in New York as a mailman walked up to an apartment to deliver a lost letter from the 1990s that Orla (Louisa Harland) and Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson) had sent. As the door opens, the letter is handed to activist and writer Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former President of the United States Bill Clinton and Hilary Clinton.
