Anna Marie de la Fuente Barcelona-based Scenic Rights, the leading literary rights broker for Spanish-language film and TV series, has officially opened its Mexico City office as it continues to expand its purview across key territories, including Madrid, Los Angeles and most recently, Prague.The Mexico City office opening, delayed twice by the pandemic, kicks off operations on Monday March 7. According to Scenic Rights CEO, Sydney Borjas, the company’s Mexican branch will oversee more than 30 book to film-TV project adaptations, mostly into series.Ana Karen Larios, previously a foreign rights manager at VF Literary Agency, has been tapped as Scenic Rights’ content manager in Mexico and will report to the agency’s Chief Operating Officer Ignacio Diaz.

HBO‘s original series, Like Water For Chocolate, has begun production on the second and final season.

Ethan Shanfeld “Like Water for Chocolate” has been renewed for a second season at Max, executive producer Salma Hayek Pinault revealed at the streamer’s showcase in London Thursday evening. Hayek Pinault, appearing alongside Max Latin America boss Mariano Cesar, said the romantic drama series will not go beyond Season 2. “We don’t want to do more than two,” she said.

Set in the early 20th century in Mexico, the six-episode Spanish-language series (critics received two for review) follows Tita (Azul Guaita), the youngest De La Garza daughter and her forbidden romance with her childhood sweetheart, Pedro Múzquiz (Andrés Baida). Tita and her older sisters, the rebellious Gertrudis (Andrea Chaparro) and the stoic Rosaura (Ana Valeria Becerril) are raised by their bitter and vengeful widowed mother, Elena (an intense Irene Azuela).

Ellise Shafer “Like Water for Chocolate,” HBO’s upcoming series adaptation of Laura Esquivel’s Mexican literary classic executive produced by Salma Hayek Pinault, has released its official trailer. Set during the Mexican Revolution in the early 20th century, the six-episode series follows Tita de la Garza (Azul Guaita) and Pedro Múzquiz (Andrés Baida), “two souls deeply in love, yet unable to be together due to entrenched family customs,” according to the show’s synopsis.

Veteran producer and sales agent Rosa Bosch has joined the Madrid-based distributor and international sales agency Begin Again Films. Bosch will serve as part of the company’s international department.
