Although it took another 15 years after that film to come to fruition, Tedesco had an easy go-to for an unofficial sequel.

Julie Byrne is set to follow her 2023 album The Greater Wings with a new EP. The four-track project is being released under the name Laugh Cry Laugh and is a collaborative effort between Byrne, Taryn Blake Miller, and Emily Fontana.

The roster includes a long-in-the-works authorized documentary on the enormously influential but unsung producer Tom Wilson, who produced Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone,” Simon & Garfunkel’s “Sounds of Silence” and the first Velvet Underground album and recordings by John Coltrane, Frank Zappa, Sun Ra and many more — which is now titled “Like a Rolling Stone,” fittingly enough.

Brent Lang Executive Editor Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American rights to “Immediate Family,” director Denny Tedesco’s follow-up to his acclaimed documentary “The Wrecking Crew.” That earlier film, which Magnolia also released, followed the first wave of studio musicians in the ’60s. “Immediate Family” takes up the story where “The Wrecking Crew” ended, taking a deep dive through some of the most famous and influential session musicians from the 1970s.

McKinley Franklin editor Judith James, producer of “Quiz Show” and “Mad Dog Time” and Richard Dreyfuss’ longtime collaborator, died in Santa Barbara after a bout with cancer. She was 86. James’ friend, Alex. B Block, confirmed the news to Variety. James’ was an accomplished producer who worked alongside Dreyfuss on projects including “Funny, You Don’t Look 200: A Constitutional Vaudeville,” “Prisoner of Honor” and “The Lightkeepers.” “From the minute I met Judy James at the Mark Taper Forum, I knew I had found someone who had the same passion for storytelling that I did,” Dreyfuss said in a statement. “In all the years we were producing partners, we were of like mind, not gender, and we always found a way to agree and wouldn’t have done anything without each other’s approval. She was a wonderful woman and a great friend.”

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic David Lindley, a virtuoso guitarist and multi-instrumentalist best known to many for his work with Jackson Browne, as well as a recording and touring artist in his own right, died Friday at age 78. No cause of death was immediately given. The musician had been known to have been ailing for some time. A family member posted late last year that Lindley had been repeatedly hospitalized for kidney issues, pneumonia and influenza; a fundraiser that had been recently set up for Lindley and his family said his medical issues “seem to have begun with a terrible bout of Long Covid.” “The loss of David Lindley is a huge one,” tweeted Jason Isbell. “Without his influence my music would sound completely different. I was genuinely obsessed with his playing from the first time I heard it. The man was a giant.”

Many fans have pointed fingers to similarities between former bandmates Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham which begs the question, was “Daisy Jones & the Six” inspired by Fleetwood Mac or another real band? Author Taylor Jenkins Reid, whose book introduced the world to Daisy Jones, has previously detailed several sources of inspiration in her writing including rock, disco and the whole Laurel Canyon scene. But Fleetwood Mac was always front and center in Reid’s mind. “I started with the germ of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham and Fleetwood Mac,” the author said in a previous interview hosted by her publisher. But as she researched and to pull creative inspiration from a slew of ‘70s stars, — crediting Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, Carole King, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, Tom Petty and Crosby, Stills and Nash​​ alongside Fleetwood Mac.

The band’s debut album ‘Aurora’ is set to be released alongside the Amazon series on March 3, which features co-writing credits from Marcus Mumford, Phoebe Bridgers and Jackson Browne.The theme song for the show is ‘Dancing Barefoot’ by Patti Smith Group.

may tell the story of a fictional band, but they're rubbing shoulders with some very real musical influences. The cast of Amazon's upcoming adaptation of the ultra-popular novel told ET's Nischelle Turner that Bob Dylan paid a visit to their recording studio. «It was insane,» Suki Waterhouse, who plays band member Karen, said of the experience. «He had a tour bus outside of Sound City.»Sound City is the iconic Los Angeles recording studio where the cast recorded the album on which the book focuses. Blake Mills, producer of the show's soundtrack, has also previously worked with Dylan. Author Taylor Jenkins Reid wrote many of 's lyrics for the book, but the show will now bring the fictional music to life. Camila Morrone, who plays Camila, wife of band leader Billy, added that the cast tried to stay focused on their own work despite being utterly starstruck. «When Bob Dylan's making music you just let him do his thing,» she said with a chuckle.«We tried to stay out of his way,» Waterhouse agreed.Though the Bob Dylan sighting may have been more a moment in passing, the cast certainly had their fair share of epic artistic run-ins while in production. Mills recruited a group of music legends to adapt Reid's and the finished project boasts co-writing credits from Marcus Mumford, Phoebe Bridgers and Jackson Browne.Tony Berg, a frequent collaborator of Bridgers, also provided additional support and the album features instrumental work from David Bowie, Elton John, Pearl Jam, Jeff Beck, Rilo Kiley, The Who, Nine Inch Nails and The Wallflowers. Riley Keough, granddaughter of Elvis Presley, plays Daisy Jones.
