Spotify Wrapped has been launched, revealing the most popular artists, songs, albums and podcasts in the UK and giving users special insight into their own listening habits.Shared each year by the streaming platform, this latest edition introduces a range of new features and is available to access now via the Spotify mobile app (iOS and Android) or on desktop by heading to the website.As well as showing the usual insights into each user’s own listening habits, a new range of features have been rolled out for the 2023 edition too. These include a new section called ‘Me in 2023’ which reveals which one of the 12 listening styles best describes the way you listen on Spotify, and a new section called ‘Sound Town’, which matches you to a city based on your listening and shared artist affinity.Pre-existing insights such as Top Five Genres and Top Five Artists have also been given a new design, and some of the most popular musicians of 2023 have recorded messages that will be played if they feature as one of your top artists.An AI DJ feature has also been added to guide listeners through their personalised Wrapped – serving up a mix based on your taste and sharing commentary about some of your favourite artists, genres, songs and more.

U2 say Larry Mullen Jr “gave it all” on ‘Atomic City’

U2 have spoken about drummer Larry Mullen Jr playing “up a storm” in the studio when recording their new single ‘Atomic City‘, despite being saddled with surgery recovery.The band, who dropped their first new song in two years today (September 29) hours before their residency at Las Vegas’ new MSG Sphere venue opens, said in a new interview that drummers – and Mullen Jr – are “a breed apart” when it comes to soldiering on.Mullen Jr last year cited damage to his “elbows, knees [and] necks”, which he “got a chance to have a look at” during the COVID pandemic. He said that he was unsure whether he’d be able to tour with U2 for the foreseeable.Due to these drumming-related injuries, which he described as “damage along the way”, Mullen said he’d “like to take some time… to get myself healed”.

U2 release anthemic new single ‘Atomic City’

U2 are back with their first new song in two years – listen to “Atomic City’ and watch the accompanying music video below.The Irish band have returned to the post-punk of their heyday with a stirring guitar hook reminiscent of their 1983 hit ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’ and a chorus that channels Blondie.Vocalist Bono sings about freedom (“I’m free/ I see what’s in front of me/ And your freedom is contagious/ What you’ve got I wanna be,”) and nods to “Atomic City” aka Las Vegas, the city in which the accompanying music video is set, as somewhere to find it.It’s not known whether the song, which is U2’s first since 2021 when they released ‘Your Song Saved My Life‘ for the Sing 2 soundtrack, will feature on an as-yet-unannounced album. The band have teased a record that prioritises a “guitar music” sound.The new single was produced by Jacknife Lee and Steve Lillywhite and recorded at Sound City in LA.

U2 have today (September 28) shared a teaser of their upcoming new single ‘Atomic City’ – check it out below.The song has previously been heard briefly when U2 played a surprise show in front of the Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas earlier this month (September 16). The band were filming the music video for the song.The song is a nod to Las Vegas, where the band are due to take up their forthcoming residency at the new MSG Sphere in the city.

'Daisy Jones & The Six' Cast Reveals Bob Dylan Visited Their Recording Studio (Exclusive)

The cast of Amazon's upcoming adaptation of the ultra-popular novel told ET's Nischelle Turner that Bob Dylan paid a visit to their recording studio. «It was insane,» Suki Waterhouse, who plays band member Karen, said of the experience. «He had a tour bus outside of Sound City.»Sound City is the iconic Los Angeles recording studio where the cast recorded the album on which the book focuses. Blake Mills, producer of the show's soundtrack, has also previously worked with Dylan. Author Taylor Jenkins Reid wrote many of 's lyrics for the book, but the show will now bring the fictional music to life. Camila Morrone, who plays Camila, wife of band leader Billy, added that the cast tried to stay focused on their own work despite being utterly starstruck. «When Bob Dylan's making music you just let him do his thing,» she said with a chuckle.«We tried to stay out of his way,» Waterhouse agreed.Though the Bob Dylan sighting may have been more a moment in passing, the cast certainly had their fair share of epic artistic run-ins while in production. Mills recruited a group of music legends to adapt Reid's and the finished project boasts co-writing credits from Marcus Mumford, Phoebe Bridgers and Jackson Browne.Tony Berg, a frequent collaborator of Bridgers, also provided additional support and the album features instrumental work from David Bowie, Elton John, Pearl Jam, Jeff Beck, Rilo Kiley, The Who, Nine Inch Nails and The Wallflowers. ‘If These Walls Could Sing’ Review: Mary McCartney Takes Her Own Crosswalk to Abbey Road

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic It’s fair to say that Abbey Road Studios is the most documented recording facility in the world, but only if you count the crosswalk outside. Otherwise, the nine-bedroom mansion turned studio hasn’t really had its day in the cinematic sun, the way that more modest studios like L.A.’s Sound City and Alabama’s Muscle Shoals have. Making up for that with an A-lister-filled movie treatment is “If These Walls Could Sing,” the first feature-length documentary from Mary McCartney, who has a hell of a shared Rolodex to draw upon in gathering the firsthand rock ‘n’ roll anecdotes you expect and want in a film like this. She’s also savvy enough to know that the guy working in the back gluing irreplaceable mid-century microphones back together deserves a few seconds of screen time, too.
