Andrew McCarthy’s upcoming Hulu documentary about the ’80s-era Brat Pack, of which both Nelson and McCarthy were charter members.“It seems strange to have that subject matter be something for edited entertainment,” Nelson, 64, told Us Weekly while attending the Children Uniting Nations 24th Annual Academy Awards Celebration & Viewing Dinner on March 10 in Beverly Hills.“Also, like, [McCarthy’s] a nice guy,” he continued, “but I hadn’t seen him in 35 years.“And it’s like, I’m not going to [be] like, ‘Hey!’ No, dude.”It was announced in January that McCarthy, 61, was working on the Hulu documentary about the Brat Pack, so dubbed in a 1985 New Yorker magazine article after the cast appeared together in two movies, “The Breakfast Club” and “St. Elmo’s Fire.”The main Brat Pack members were McCarthy, Nelson, Demi Moore, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Mare Winningham, Molly Ringwald, Jon Cryer and Ally Sheedy.Fringe members, sometimes included in the group, were Timothy Hutton, Tom Cruise, Nicholas Cage and Sean Penn.McCarthy, Lowe, Moore, Cryer, Sheedy and Estevez, among others, will all be featured in the new project.The documentary will premiere later this year and will be written and directed by McCarthy, whose 2021 memoir was titled “Brat: An ’80s Story.”The group’s name was a play on Frank Sinatra’s early-’60s era Rat Pack, which included Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, Dean Martin and Joey Bishop.Nelson confirmed to the outlet that there was a “request” for him to join McCarthy’s Brat Pack documentary, but that he “politely declined” the offer.

BreAnna Bell ABC News Studios has teamed up with Neon and Network Entertainment to announce “Brats,” a feature-length documentary that focuses on the stars who came to be known in the ’80s as the famous Brat Pack. Told with the help of director and former Brat Pack member Andrew McCarthy (“Pretty in Pink,” “St. Elmo’s Fire”), the director hits the road 30 years later, reuniting with several members of the Brat Pack crew including Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Jon Cryer, Emilio Estevez asking each member what being apart of the Brat Pack meant to them.

Andrew McCarthy is getting back together with his fellow Brat Pack alums Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Jon Cryer, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez and more for the feature documentary Brats, a revealing look at the cultural phenomenon they became in the 1980s and how that has impacted their lives ever since.

A mini Brat Pack reunion took place over the weekend. Andrew McCarthy shared a present-day photo with Demi Moore on his Instagram, accompanied by a throwback pic to their "St. Elmo’s Fire" days.

Emilio Estevez said his father Martin Sheen once advised him not to make the same "mistake" he did, urging him to use his birth name for auditions.  "I thought using the name Sheen would help [with auditions]," Estevez told Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb on the "Today" show Tuesday.  "At the time, my dad said, ‘Don’t make the mistake that I did. Don’t change your name' because back in the day – 1958 — he changed his name from Ramón Estévez to Martin Sheen because, at the time, there was a lot of prejudice against people with the Hispanic name."  He said, in 1967, Sheen’s father, Estevez’s grandfather Francisco Estévez, went to see Sheen on Broadway in "The Subject Was Roses."  "He stood outside of the theater and looked up at the marquee, and my dad saw him shake his head in disappointment, and so he never got over that," the Breakfast Club" actor said. "And, so, I think when it was time for me to sort of start making those moves and start getting out and doing auditions, he said, 'Man, if I had one thing to do over, it was that I never would have changed my name.'" Sheen, who only adopted a stage name and never changed his legally, spoke about his "regret" last year.

Laurence Fishburne was a life saver to young Emilio Estevez.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Emilio Estevez recalled on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” that he was 14 years old when Laurence Fishburne saved him from drowning in quicksand in the Philippines. The two were in the Philippines for the production of Frances Ford Coppola’s Vietnam war epic “Apocalypse Now,” in which Fishburne had a supporting role. Estevez’s father, Martin Sheen, had a starring role in the film as U.S. Army Captain Benjamin Willard. “He says, ‘Hey there’s this little boat, let’s go out on it.’ I said, ‘Sure.’ We were both 14 at the time,” Estevez said of Fishburne. “So we were out on this boat together, and we started getting too close to the shore and I said, ‘Well, let me jump out, I’ll push us offshore. I jumped out, and it was like quicksand mud.”

Emilio Estevez said this week that Laurence Fishburne saved his life when he was 14 years old after he fell into quicksand in the Philippines.  "I was sinking, and I just saw Fishburne just looking at me going, ‘Grab my hand!’ and he pulled me back onto the boat," he told Jennifer Hudson on her talk show Tuesday in an interview with his dad Martin Sheen.  The "Breakfast Club" actor said he had only known Fishburne for a "couples of days" before the life-threatening incident. Estevez had just arrived on-set with Sheen, who was starring in 1979's "Apocalypse Now" along with Fishburne.  "He says, ‘Hey there’s this little boat, let’s go out on it.’ I said, ‘Sure.’ We were both 14 at the time," Estevez said of Fishburne.

Charlie Sheen is planning his television comeback and mending fences along the way. The actor was famously fired from his hit sitcom "Two and a Half Men" and instigated a feud with the show’s creator, Chuck Lorre, in the aftermath as he struggled with addiction issues. Now, Sheen and Lorre are working on a new series, the second added to actor's roster as he continues a slow and steady return to the public eye.

Sophia Scorziello editor The Sun Valley Film Festival announced their 2023 award winners, with National Geographic’s Documentary “Wild Life” taking home the audience award, “Fancy Dance” winning best narrative and “Nascondino” earning the documentary feature film prize. The annual Idaho Awards Bash took place from March 29 to April 2 at Whiskey Jacques.   In addition to the film awards, the festival hosted a performance by Blair Gun and Variety honored this year’s 10 Producers to Watch. Other highlights include Josh Brolin receiving the Vision award, Emilio Estevez receiving the Pioneer award, Sophie Thatcher receiving the Rising Star award and Nina Yang Bongiovi receiving the Creative Impact Honoree in Producing.

Charna Flam The Sun Valley film festival announced Emilio Estevez is set to receive the Pioneer Award at the festival’s upcoming pioneer party.  Estevez joins previously announced Sun Valley film festival honorees including Variety‘s 10 Producers to Watch, Josh Brolin, Sophie Thatcher and Nina Yang Bongiovi, who are set to receive the Vision Award, the Rising Star Award and the Variety Creative Impact Award in Producing, respectively.  On March 31, Estevez will receive his Pioneer Award, and on April 1, will host a special screening of his 2011 feature, “The Way.”
