All Quiet on the Western Front scooped the Best International Feature Film Oscar this evening, after earlier taking the Cinematography trophy and then winning for Production Design and Original Score. Such categories in which it is also nominated, including Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay and Sound are still to be unveiled. This is the first time a German title has taken the International Feature prize since 2006’s The Lives of Others. 

German musician Volker Bertelmann nudged out the competition to pick up his first Academy Award Sunday for Netflix’s war epic All Quiet on the Western Front.

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent Daniel Brühl (“All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Captain America: Civil War”) is set to star as late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld in “Kaiser Karl,” the anticipated Disney+ original series which Gaumont (“Lupin”) is currently producing. The show is currently shooting in France, Monaco and Italy. The six-part series will chronicle the rise of Karl Lagerfeld through the world of 1970s Parisian high fashion. In 1972, a 38-year-old Karl Lagerfeld aspired to become the most famous French fashion designer, at a time when Yves Saint Laurent reigned supreme. Lagerfeld went on to become the head designer and creative director of Chanel, Fendi and his own label.

It was nominated for fourteen BAFTAs at the 2023 ceremony and ended up winning seven of them.All Quiet On The Western Front won the BAFTA for Film Not In The English Language, Cinematography, Adapted Screenplay, Original Score, Director, Sound and the biggest award of the night – Best Film.This run of awards makes All Quiet On The Western Front the first foreign language film to win more than four BAFTAs.“It’s just incredible,” said producer Malte Grunert while picking up the Best Film prize before talking about how the story of a generation “poisoned by right-wing propaganda into thinking war is an adventure” was as relevant today as it was almost 100 years ago.All Quiet On The Western Front was released last October on Netflix and is still available to watch on the streaming platform.A synopsis for the film reads: “All Quiet on the Western Front tells the gripping story of a young German soldier on the Western Front of World War I.

“I was always a big fan of the original movie, but I did feel while watching subsequent American or British war films that is a question of perspective that I can’t tell,” All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger said of his motivation in finally bringing a German version of the iconic World War I tale to the big screen.

The 2023 BAFTA Film Awards longlists were unveiled this morning, and an unexpected frontrunner emerged in Netflix’s wartime epic All Quiet On The Western Front.

Filmmaker Sam Mendes (“1917,” “Empire of Light”) is about to make his U.S. television directing debut with a new comedy series at HBO called “The Franchise.” It will see Mendes team up with comedy writer/director Armando Iannucci (“Avenue 5,” “In The Loop”), likely best known to American audiences for the political comedy series “Veep” and the hilarious Soviet-era satire “The Death of Stalin.

The Franchise, a comedy pilot for HBO that takes a wry look at superhero moviemaking, has found its cast.

Deadline on Monday launched its streaming site for Contenders Film: International, the annual awards-season showcase of the buzziest movies in the hunt for the International Feature Oscar.

Director Edward Berger said that what intrigued him most about the prospect of adapting Erich Maria Remarque’s world-renowned bestselling book All Quiet on the Western Front into a film was the chance to tell the story in his native German language.

The Night Manager producer The Ink Factory is forging a TV version of John Le Carré’’s A Most Wanted Man almost a decade after making a feature film version, with Snabba Cash writer Oskar Söderlund attached as showrunner.

Daniel Bruhl spent years bemoaning his youthful looks. The 44-year-old actor resented his boyish looks during his younger years because it limited him to certain acting roles. He explained: "From my late twenties up until 35, whenever I shaved, I’d think, ‘S***, I look like a 15-year-old!'" Daniel remembers being offered roles for characters that were ten years younger than his real-life age.

Anthony Mackie, who has played superhero Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” is leading the film as the new Captain America for the first time. The cast of the fourth “Captain America” movie will also include Shira Haas as Sabra and Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, as well as Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly, who appeared in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” series. We last saw Mackie starring in the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” where he first took up the Captain America shield and debuted a new patriotic costume. The show co-starred Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier, and Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, a former CIA agent from the “Captain America” films. It also introduced Wyatt Russell as the faux Captain America John Walker, who turned into the villainous U.S. Agent. “Top Gun: Maverick” actor Danny Ramirez was introduced as Joaquin Torres, a new ally to Wilson’s Cap, and Daniel Bruhl returned as the evil Baron Zemo in the series.

The harrowing new trailer for “All Quiet on the Western Front” has been released ahead of the movie’s premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Considered one of the greatest war novels of all time, perhaps no story told the horrors of war greater than “All Quiet On The Western Front,” a novel by Erich Maria Remarque, a German veteran of World War I, published in 1928. Soon after, Lewis Milestone directed his own movie based on the book in 1930, another early classic.
